┃Care and Usage Instructions┃
1. All olive wood products from Visiting Forest are made from natural, raw wood. They are soaked in maintenance oil before shipping, giving them a beeswax color. It is normal for the color to lighten after the first few washes and wipes; applying oil will restore its natural hue.
2. During the first few cleanings, a light yellowish-brown natural substance or maintenance oil may rinse or wipe off olive wood products. This is a natural phenomenon, so please use with confidence.
3. When cleaning, rinse with warm or cold water using a soft cleaning tool. After washing, wipe off any remaining moisture and store in a ventilated area to air dry naturally.
4. If the product absorbs odors (e.g., from fish or meat), you can wipe it with cold water and white vinegar, then rinse thoroughly.
5. For concerns about staining (e.g., from steak), you can scrub with baking soda water and then wipe the stained area with a cloth or brush.
6. Do not expose directly to sunlight or place in humid environments or areas with rapid temperature changes.
7. Do not use in dishwashers, dish dryers, or ovens.
8. Regular maintenance: It is recommended to apply food-grade wood maintenance oil or natural beeswax to the product surface monthly to maintain its natural luster.
┃Important Notes┃
1. Olive wood products are handcrafted from a single piece of natural wood. To find the most suitable cut and the most beautiful grain angle for each piece, there may be slight variations in size. Minor wood grain and cracks are the most natural guarantee of solid wood handmade items. Some product edges may retain natural bark and knots.
2. Regardless of the wood's quality, prolonged soaking in water or failure to dry can lead to mold. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause wood to bleach. Therefore, we store our finished olive wood products indoors. Each product will have slight variations in size, weight, thickness, and pattern, as they are not mass-produced by machines. You will see beautiful features like wood knots and natural pores.
┃Olive Wood FAQs┃
Q: Are your products made from a single piece of wood?
A: Visiting Forest strives to ensure all products are made from a single piece of wood. If a product is not made from a single piece due to its design, we will clearly indicate it! Please pay attention to the product descriptions.
Q: Do you have a recommended maintenance oil?
A: Before shipping, Visiting Forest applies a layer of wood kitchenware maintenance oil (NSF-3H certified food-grade mineral oil). Food-grade mineral oil and natural beeswax are highly recommended for maintenance. However, please remember "not" to use olive oil to maintain olive wood products, as this can cause them to spoil or develop an rancid smell.
Q: Why does my olive wood product feel oily, and even the packaging paper has some oily marks?
A: Before shipping, our packaging staff at Visiting Forest will wipe all olive wood products with maintenance oil before packaging. Therefore, it is normal for your product to feel oily. We carefully wrap all olive wood products to prevent the maintenance oil from transferring to the packaging paper. If there are slight transfers, there are no safety concerns, so please rest assured and accept our apologies.
Q: Why does the color change completely after the first wash and drying compared to when I first received it?
A: The color will naturally change! Each wash removes some of the maintenance oil, so the color will no longer be the initial beeswax tone. Restoring the color is simple: in addition to the recommended monthly maintenance, you can apply a thin layer of maintenance oil after the product dries to maintain its color.
Q: Can olive wood cutting boards be used for chopping large pieces of meat?
A: Absolutely! You can use them just like your previous cutting boards.
Q: Do olive wood products have a shelf life?
A: A well-maintained piece of olive wood can last for decades. Without joints, there's no risk of disintegration, and since it's unpainted, there's no peeling. Even with knife marks, it can be used after basic sanding and refurbishment. However, for food hygiene and safety, we strongly recommend using separate cutting boards for raw and cooked foods for a healthy and long-lasting practice.
