At that time, it was founded by Russian Jewish immigrants Michael and Joseph Chernow in Providence, Rhode Island, USA. They named their company Monocraft Products Co. The Chernow brothers operated under this name for ten years, producing their first jewelry pieces in 1929. It's unclear what motivated the company's founders to eventually name their jewelry Monet. Perhaps they admired the works of Impressionist painters Édouard Manet and Claude Monet. The Chernov brothers' brand, Monet jewelry, debuted in 1937. This brand is not only known for its particular affection for "vintage" style. With the help of Monet's masters, several revolutionary inventions related to the technical aspects of fashion jewelry were developed, which, incidentally, are patented. For example, they developed the ear-post earring, which is common today, instead of clip-on earrings. Additionally, traditional Monet earrings created a new type of clasp. The company also patented a necklace clasp known as the "barrel" clasp. Metal craftsmanship became the hallmark of the Monet brand, creating jewelry with a wide variety of textured metal lace designs. Monet jewelry primarily used precious metals, and many items were made of sterling silver using innovative methods, often marked "Monet Sterling."
