French Third Republic Period | Pair of Gilded Brass Candlesticks with Gallic Rooster and Lyre Arms
These French classical candlesticks, originating from the late 19th to early 20th century (circa 1890–1910), perfectly fuse the "Gallic Rooster (Le Coq Gaulois)," a symbol of the French national spirit, with the "Lyre of the Muses" from Greek mythology, embodying the distinctive French courtly aesthetic of the late French Third Republic period.
The lyre's body is adorned with continuous floral fruits and laurel leaves, while the scrollwork at the top is intricately carved with proud Gallic roosters. The rim of the candle holder is embellished with classic beadwork and acanthus leaf details.
The entire piece is cast in brass and finished with gilding, complemented by a stable, substantial round white marble base, presenting an overall elegant and slender silhouette.
Origin: French Antique
Era: Circa 1890–1910 (Louis XVI Revival / Neoclassicism)
Materials: Gilded Brass, White Marble Base
Dimensions: Height approx. 23 cm / Width approx. 18 cm / Base Diameter approx. 10 cm
Having undergone over a century of refinement, the candlesticks exhibit a warm, understated dark gold patina. Most areas retain their gilding, while the candle holder sockets, raised areas, and frequently handled parts show natural patination and accumulated dust, forming a deep historical layer.
Both pieces are structurally intact. The gilding displays natural age-related oxidation, patina, and some areas of wear revealing the underlying material. The marble bases are stable.
As these are antique items, they will inherently bear historical marks; please purchase only if you are comfortable with this.
