As a natural material, and given that the tannery uses vegetable tanning methods that minimize damage to the leather's character, it's inevitable that the surface may bear minor "scars," "wrinkles," or "veins." During the cutting process, we make every effort to avoid these imperfections or position them on less visible or non-stress areas of the product. 2. Hand-Stitched Seams Our products are not made using sewing machines; all are meticulously hand-stitched. Before stitching, special diamond chisels are used to punch sewing holes in the leather, creating the characteristic wavy stitch pattern that distinguishes handcraft from machine work. While this significantly increases production time, it's a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a gentle, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges The final step before completion is the burnishing and finishing of the leather edges. To ensure the edges are smooth, rounded, and natural, "Cut Line" employs its unique edge-finishing technique. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth any sharp edges. Then, an edge sealant is applied for a flat finish, repeated 2-3 times. This is followed by a layer of edge wax, and finally, a burnishing tool is used to polish the edges until they achieve a lustrous smoothness. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "Cut Line" currently uses Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes imported from the United States. To achieve an even and natural coloration, we begin by lightly dampening the leather surface. Then, a sponge is used to apply the dye repeatedly, building from light to deep tones until the desired color is achieved. Once dry, a fixative is applied to enhance colorfastness. Finally, the surface is treated with water to remove any surface dust and further even out the color. Because each piece is hand-dyed, subtle variations exist between the colors of each item, ensuring that every product is truly unique.
