Hong Kong Tram is a streetcar system that travels between Shau Kei Wan and Kennedy Town on Hong Kong Island, as well as a circular branch line to and from Happy Valley. It carries an average of 220,000 passengers a day. It is the only existing tram in the world that uses double-decker trams. It is also one of the oldest means of transportation in Hong Kong. Hong Kong Tram is the cheapest land transportation on Hong Kong Island, and it is also a famous tourist attraction for foreign tourists. In the early 1980s, the Hong Kong government intended to fully acquire the Hong Kong Tramway Company for HK$3.2 billion, and invited the Hong Kong MTR to replace the tram service with the light rail system.
