| Producer Organization: Jute Work |
Established in 1973, its purpose was to enable women in Bangladesh who lost their fathers and husbands during the war of independence and were forced to live solely on relief funds to achieve economic independence through handicrafts.
The first initiative was a training program where two Catholic nuns taught how to make items using jute. For over 40 years, we have strived to improve the social and economic conditions of impoverished women.
We provide income sources by creating products using locally available natural resources such as jute, grass, rattan, bamboo, and clay. Currently, we produce a wide variety of products in 23 production areas in Japan and export them to Europe, the Americas, Australia, and Asia.
In addition to capacity building (strengthening organizational foundations) and awareness training, we offer extensive support ranging from education, health, and hygiene to income-generating initiatives.
