Acrylic paint was applied one layer at a time, with each layer needing to dry completely before the next could be added. Starting from the first layer, it was built up to the twelfth. The colors and light you see are not from single pigments, but are the traces left behind by time, layer by layer. Light reflects and penetrates between the different layers, giving the artwork a sense of depth and fluidity. ⸻ And the white whale was born within this passage of time. I've always felt that it's not an ordinary animal, but more like a spirit of the ocean. Yet, we can only see them in aquariums. That shouldn't be. Seeing images of white whales shedding tears is truly heartbreaking. So I painted it, letting it leap out from the canvas.
