"Ocean Waves" attempts to view and express the impressions and culture of the sea from a modern perspective, interpreting maritime culture through everyday objects. Surrounded by the sea, Taiwan has accumulated a deep and extensive maritime culture over the ages. It began with the origins of Austronesian peoples, became the Formosa described by Westerners during the Age of Discovery, recalls the crossings from the mainland during the Tang Dynasty, and bears the traces left by the arrival and departure of different ethnic groups throughout time, leading to the homeland we inhabit today. The grand narrative of "great eras" forms the backdrop of our growth, while the "small eras" belong to the fragmented memories of our youth—misplaced in fishing villages along the coast, the seaside where we ran and shouted with friends, the coastal roads stretching forward against a deep blue sky, the western sandy beaches, the northern rocky shores, the moments waves crashed against reefs, the steadfast fishermen guiding boats into the harbor, the bustling, lively fish markets, the joyous indulgence in seafood snacks... These fragments that accompanied our upbringing, the past and present, and future possibilities are the emotions and thoughts we wish to share with everyone through "Ocean Waves."
