Made with soft, comfortable bleached cotton fabric. This work is dyed using a paste-resist dyeing technique with colored paste and two stencil patterns. As the paste is applied individually, each tenugui is virtually a one-of-a-kind item. "Time by the Water" is a tenugui designed with the imagery of ancient *sarasa* prints. It was created as part of a series, following "Coffee Time," "Let's Make Bread," and "Grape Wine." This time, the setting is Vietnam. We have never been there ourselves, but we had an image of life intertwined with water. The idea is of large fish in Vietnamese rivers, lotus flowers blooming as if it were perpetually summer, the sound of flowing water and the fluttering of small birds, and the rustling of bamboo leaves by the riverbanks in the wind... We tried to express the people who spend their days there. The image of water is conveyed through a gradient background dyeing, and in each plate, two colors of dye are hand-applied through stencil printing.
