Brass Care Instructions: Brass has always been a highly favored material for jewelry due to its accessible price point and resistance to color fading. However, much like sterling silver, brass is susceptible to oxidation. Exposure to water, sweat, and air can deepen its color over time. While some appreciate this natural patina, here are some tips to maintain its original luster: ♦ Avoid contact with water. ♦ Store in a resealable bag when not being worn. If the luster begins to fade, here are a few simple methods to restore your item's brilliance. Please note that while color can be revived after minor abrasions, the original shine may not be fully restored (the matte, antique bronze finish of vintage pieces is also quite beautiful!). ♦ Use a toothbrush with a small amount of foaming toothpaste or tooth powder. Gently brush the brass as if you were brushing your teeth to restore its shine. Be sure to dry thoroughly after rinsing. ♦ Wipe with a silver polishing cloth for a quick restoration of shine (not applicable to brushed finishes). ♦ Dilute lemon juice and soak the brass item for approximately 5 minutes to quickly restore its shine (not suitable for natural beads that are sensitive to acid, such as pearls).
