About ‘Le rêve: Jungle’ collection The collection ‘Le rêve: Jungle’ is inspired by the 19 century self-taught French painter Henri Rousseau’s series works about tropical jungle. Rousseau never received any art training. Despite the fact that there was no use of perspective or shadow in his work, his humble painting strokes and vibrant colors touched the heart of many contemporary art lovers. Picasso even praised him as one of the genius of the time. In fact, Rousseau didn’t leave France for his entire life. The flourishing and colorful tropical plants, flowers, birds, beasts, and even indigenous people figures actually came from his observation in city gardens and zoos. His work combined what he saw with his imagination. What we hope to achieve in this collection is to transform Rousseau’s fascinating work into brass work. To correspond with Rousseau, who use the most simple technic in painting, we choose to use hand cut for this collection. It’s the most simple technic, but also the most time consuming, and it also gives every piece of work a special touch.
