Westerwald-style salt-glazed handpainted stoneware jug.
This type of stoneware is also known as Kannenbäckerland Stoneware, and it is a distinctive type of salt glazed grey pottery that originated in the Höhr-Grenzhausen and Ransbach-Baumbach area of Westerwaldkreis in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany.
The layer of salt glaze ensures that the pottery is water tight without adding any flavour to the liquid contained in the pot. Westerwald stoneware is typically decorated with cobalt blue painted designs.
This piece is in good condition with some small signs of aging. The photographs are a part of the description.
