I carried them with me when I went out, and the calming scent of Palo Santo brought me peace. My daughter often played with my prayer beads and loved their aroma. One day, I used some extra Palo Santo beads to weave a bracelet for her. The legend of Yue Lao, the God of Love and Marriage, first appeared in the Tang Dynasty in the story "Ding Hun Dian" (The Marriage Plot) by Li Fuyan. In the story, the young man Wei Gu, guided by the old man's matchmaking, eventually married the girl who, years later, was the infant daughter of the vegetable seller the old man had spoken of.
