A Glimpse of Memory My fondness for walnut shortbread cookies stems from my grandmother. It was her favorite snack, a cherished memory from childhood. A small neighborhood store sold them in packs of six for 40 NT dollars. She would carefully take out a folded, old 50 NT dollar bill from her coin purse. I'd eagerly volunteer to buy them for her, knowing the change would be enough for a pack of Doublemint gum. Grandma's purse was old and small, its patterns barely discernible.
