The Old Goat fountain pen uses carefully selected natural shell materials, showcasing the unique beauty of natural materials through meticulous handmade inlay craftsmanship. During production, the natural shells are cut into thin slices of appropriate size, then carefully arranged and inlaid piece by piece, matching the original grain and color of each piece as closely as possible. Once completed, they are hand-polished and coated with a thick layer of clear lacquer to ensure a smooth, delicate surface, revealing a warm and translucent luster. Every shell has different natural textures and colors (shipped at random for quality consistency). When inlaid, they form rich visual layers that reveal captivating colors and light as the viewing angle and lighting change. Natural lines are visible at the inlay joints, yet the surface remains smooth and delicate to the touch. From material selection and cutting to inlaying, polishing, and surface treatment, every step requires careful execution to fully reveal the unique texture and luster of the natural shell. This pen features grey chrome-plated accents, a screw-on airtight cap, and an elastic clip design. The pen uses a German BOCK #250 (#6) Rose Gold Steel Tip, professionally handcrafted by Old Goat artisans into a calligraphic nib capable of producing the varied line widths characteristic of brush calligraphy. It offers tactile feedback, allowing you to create Kanji characters with varying line thicknesses to express your unique taste. A standard, unmodified nib is also available (in four sizes: EF, F, M, B). If your handwriting is small or compact, we recommend the EF (Extra Fine) or F (Fine) nib. Hand-polished Calligraphic Nib Adjustment: 1. For the calligraphic nib, we recommend starting by dipping the pen in ink (do not remove the installed converter to prevent ink from flowing back into the barrel). After a period of acclimation to the nib's characteristics, you may begin using the converter to fill the pen. 2. The calligraphic nib is created by grinding an EF nib into a curved shape. Line variation is not achieved through pressure, but by the angle at which the pen is held, utilizing the curve at the tip. Holding the pen more upright results in less contact area with the paper, producing finer lines. As the angle becomes more tilted or with slight pressure, the contact area increases, producing thicker lines. The ability to vary line width depends on your proficiency (each nib has a certain tolerance for pressure; do not apply excessive force to avoid damaging or misaligning the nib.
