Grandmaster chess set 1950s USSR – old Soviet weighted tournament chess set - Board Games & Toys - Wood

Product Description

This model of chess pieces was developed for the Moscow Chess Tournament in 1956. And until the early 1960s, it was made entirely of wood. After the 1960s, this type of chess pieces began to be simplified, first the finials (tops) of kings, queens and bishops, as well as the black knight, began to be made of plastic. Even later, in the 1970s-1980s, the white knight was made of plastic as well. In addition, the design of the chess figures had become more simplified. The carved loopholes on the rooks disappeared, as well as the cutouts on the bishops, the pawn became less curly, the quality of work dropped significantly. You can see it visually in my store by entering into the shop search "grandmaster chess". There are models of grandmaster chess sets of 1960s-1980s. ! Chess pieces only. Chess table used just as a background. King 11 cm, base 4.5 cm. Pawn 5.5 cm, base 3 cm. Weight 770 g. Good vintage condition chess set. Some felt starts to peel off over time.
