This model of chess pieces was developed for the Moscow Chess Tournament in 1956. And until the early 1960s, it was made entirely of wood. After the 1960s, this type of chess pieces began to be simplified, first the finials (tops) of kings, queens and bishops, as well as the black knight, began to be made of plastic. Even later, in the 1970s-1980s, the white knight was made of plastic as well. In addition, the design of the chess figures had become more simplified. The carved loopholes on the rooks disappeared, as well as the cutouts on the bishops, the pawn became less curly, the quality of work dropped significantly.
