The artwork possesses a tangible thickness and visible brushstrokes, capturing the spirit and form of figures and animals with a freehand, expressive style, distinct from meticulous traditional Chinese painting. In addition to Mr. Amo's unique techniques, the individual brushstrokes incorporate Japanese Maki-e techniques, allowing the subtle textures to remain visible. Unlike typical lacquer pens with flat, uniform surfaces that conceal brushwork, the Lao Shanyang natural lacquer paintings reveal the artistry of each stroke, using lively lines to define the subject. The nib is a German JoWo #6 (WIN #12) flexible steel nib, available in EF (Extra Fine) or F (Fine) sizes.
