Upon slicing the wood, we discovered the natural growth rings were exceptionally beautiful, **displaying three rings on one side and a single flowing ring on the other.** There were also contrasting highlights and subtle dark spots. The winter morning light wasn't ideal, and **attempts to capture its essence with both a DSLR and a mobile phone resulted in color variations. The actual piece, in its form, pattern, and color, is even more captivating.** Paired with the braided cord and leaf detail, it bears a charming resemblance to an eggplant. The eggplant is a culturally auspicious symbol. The word for eggplant in Chinese, "qié" (茄), sounds similar to "qiǎ" (恰), meaning "to get" or "to obtain." Thus, eating eggplant is considered a way to "obtain good fortune," symbolizing happiness, prosperity, and good luck. Legend also suggests that because eggplants, in their varied shapes and sizes, often appear to grow intertwined, they are seen as a representation of "family togetherness." This aged boxwood, with its minimal natural scent, boasts high density and a hard texture.
