It can come into contact with water, but it's best to keep it dry to slow down oxidation. The color will change from a bright gold to an antique bronze-brown. ▴ Lightly oxidized brass can be gently brushed with a little toothpaste and water, or polished with a brass polishing cloth. For heavily oxidized pieces, you can purchase brass polish from a hardware store.
