Sasha Handicraft was established in 1978 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India's eastern state, producing clothing and interior items using traditional techniques.
Initially, activities were carried out to support the self-reliance of disadvantaged sections of Indian society, support the production of traditional handicrafts, and provide employment opportunities.
Currently, technical mentoring, marketing, business skills improvement programs and microfinance support have been provided to more than 100 small producer groups in West Bengal and Odisha.
Sasha Handicraft's artisans create gorgeous hand-printed silk dresses and tops using a range of traditional techniques including handweaving, tie-dyeing, hand embroidery, woodblock printing, metalworking and embossed leather.
