The Cedar Cabin Storage Accent piece, conceived with the idea of "Where We Belong," creates a "home" for items that need to be put back after use. For example, for a pen, it's "where pens belong."
This series presents several abstract house forms, utilizing finger-joint construction. Some pieces aim to evoke the interlocking, stacked character of brickwork, while others highlight the beauty of staggered heights by leaving the protruding tenons visible. The primary technique involves variations of 3mm finger joints. Using a table saw and jigs, the precise 3mm gaps for the finger joints are cut one by one.
A place to return to is a "home," where one can "belong." Important items should be kept safely in their proper places, just as one's original intentions should be cherished. Through the repetitive, step-by-step crafting process, the artist sought to reconnect with the initial inspiration found in woodworking. The sentiment embedded within the piece is a blessing for whatever will be placed within it in the future.
