🌸 The Pinnacle of Japanese Enameled Porcelain
A Symbol of Luxurious Ceramics - Kutani Ware
🎁 Kutani ware from Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan (Kaga, Kanazawa, Komatsu, Nomi cities), is one of Japan's three great ceramic traditions, boasting nearly 400 years of history. It is renowned for its exquisite quality, uniqueness, and is entirely hand-painted and fired.
Kutani ware is characterized by its distinctiveness, vibrant colors, bold designs, and frequent embellishments with gold leaf, which is the primary source of its luxurious aesthetic. It stands out among Japan's many regional ceramic crafts, exuding a magnificent and noble aura, making it an ideal choice for gifts!
🌈 The Translucent Beauty of "New Green Flowing Light" and "Yuri-gin-sai"
This piece originates from Kutani ware's "Shusho kiln," bearing the kiln mark on its base and standing approximately 24 cm tall. Unlike traditional Kutani ware known for its ornate paintings, this piece utilizes the "Yuri-gin-sai" technique, for which Shusho kiln is renowned. A rare and vibrant yellow-green hue, seldom seen in Kutani ware, spreads across the vase body, gradually deepening from a near-white at the rim downwards. The slender neck and full, flowing curves of the body lend an elegant and light feel to the vivid, bright colors.
"Yuri-gin-sai" involves applying silver foil in various shapes to the vase body, which is then covered with a transparent or iridescent glaze and fired at high temperatures. This process creates a jewel-like, translucent gradient. The glass-like lustrous glaze and the brilliance of the silver foil interact, creating delicate and rich light effects as it catches the light. Upon closer inspection, the glaze reveals fine, ice-crack-like textures that subtly appear beneath the translucent sheen, adding further depth to the colors and textures.
The fresh and bright yellow-green is exceptionally rare in Kutani ware, imbuing the piece with a clean, modern sensibility within traditional craftsmanship. Whether adorned with a few simply-lined flowers and branches, or displayed on its own in an entryway, living room, or display cabinet, its clear, flowing colors and luster will add a bright, artistic touch to any space.
