Age-Lock Two-Finger Ring
Continuing the structural vocabulary of "piercing and latching" from the Age-Lock series.
The two-finger structure allows lines to unfurl outwards, resembling the silhouette of a stretched knot. Two rings are connected through a clasp, bringing together previously separate elements within a single form.
Series Concept
Mizuhiki, commonly used in gift-giving and festive customs, features repeatedly threaded and tied cords. These lines not only form patterns but also embody the tradition of "negai-kake" – imbuing knots with wishes.
The Ruyi clasp, with its complementary silhouette and latching structure, forms a complete shape. The name "Ruyi" signifies not just good fortune, but also the essence of where the heart yearns and desires reside.
The Age-Lock series draws inspiration from the forms of both. Intertwining silver lines extend in predetermined directions, gradually converging through overlaps and turns; silhouettes connect and rejoin at their intersections. The structural relationships found in these objects are transformed into a vocabulary of silver adornments worn on the body.
The subtle undulations and deviations left by hand-shaping are preserved within the lines. Much like the gestures of fingers pausing during the act of tying, or the traces left by objects through years of use, this maintains a state of balance between order and fluidity in the pieces.
Mamori is not a shield against the outside world, but a preservation and guardianship of cherished things. Age-Lock focuses not on fixed time, but on the wishes entrusted, the feelings remembered, and the things one is willing to steadfastly keep.
Lines gather through knotting, and silhouettes become complete through joining. May desires be tied, may hearts be guarded, and may time linger within the form.
