Small box of Japanese folk paintings - Items for Display - Wood Black

Product Description

I like the patterns of Japanese folk paintings such as Otsu. In this box, I drew and pasted a mysterious design that I believe to be "I'm sure this is an auspicious subject." (From the left) ♦ Demon's winter prayer This painting of a demon dressed in a monk's robe is a satire of hypocrites. It depicts a person chanting the Nembutsu (Buddhist prayers) without mercy or compassion. The horns of the demon represent the three poisons of human beings (greed, anger, and ignorance), but the demon in this Otsu-e painting is said to teach how to break them and to suggest salvation from the demon. ♦ The ladder razor of the outer law and Daikoku A picture of Daikoku (one of the Gods) shaving the bald head of the long-headed Jurojin (one of the Seven Gods of Fortune). It means that if you only pursue wealth (=Daikoku), you will lose longevity (=Jurojin). It teaches that desires should be kept in moderation. It is said that displaying this will grant you a long life. ♦ The Fox and the Horse A mysterious and unique illustration of a fox riding a horse. I drew it thinking of the cute fox and the Japanese belief in Oinari-san, which is said to bring good luck to business.
