This book is the first sociological work that analyzes the identity, desire, and gender temperament of Chinese gay men in contemporary Chinese society and global culture from the perspective of "sexual citizenship." Large-scale ethnographic fieldwork, including 90 life stories from Hong Kong, London and mainland China. The book argues that the identities of gay men emerging in the three places—whether it is the Hong Kong memba who pursues dazzling consumerism, the gay and money boy in mainland China, or the feminine golden boy in London—are all influenced by the global and local queer culture. The impact of the transnational wave. By rejecting the existing presuppositions of global homogeneity and local essentialization, this book presents groundbreaking insights into the gender and sexuality of Chinese gay men, and at the same time addresses the sexual identity and desires of transnational Chinese. A new theoretical paradigm of "queer hybridity" has been established with practice.

"Through in-depth interviews, vivid case statements, and sharp theoretical analysis, Jiang Shaoqi showed how Chinese gay men are "made" and "self-made" in three different places: China, Hong Kong, and Britain. In his analysis, power is not a single center, but appears in the form of "decentralized hegemony." Therefore, he is particularly able to observe and reveal how individuals find space between systems and groups in a more subtle way. "
—Lu Dale, Vice President of The Education University of Hong Kong, Chair Professor of Hong Kong Social Studies
"At a time when marriage equality and counterattack discussions are becoming increasingly global, cross-regional views are an important navigation for gay research. This book presents the multiple appearances of sex, subject and power, which not only involves the movement of geography and the crossing of boundaries, but also highlights the culture. The translation and structural changes are very worth reading.”
—Lan Peijia, Distinguished Professor, Department of Sociology, National Taiwan University
