Product Description

- Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche, was a highly realized spiritual master who introduced Tantric Buddhism in Tibet. - He was born in the 8th century. - According to legend, he was incarnated as an eight-year-old child appearing in a multi-colored lotus blossom floating on an island in Lake Dhanakosha in the current Odisha of India. - Padmasambhava was the adopted child of King Indrabhuti of Sambalak (modern-day Sambalpur, Odisha). - He was invited to Tibet by Tibetan King Trisong Detsen. - Padmasambhava founded Tibetan Buddhism together with other invited scholars and masters. - He is respected as the second Buddha by the Nyingma School, the oldest Buddhist school in Tibet. - He helped build the finest Buddhist monastery in Tibet, called Samye Monastery, at the request of the Tibetan king. - He is said to have miraculous powers, including the ability to control demons and evil spirits. - At different points in his life, Guru Rinpoche assumed different principal forms, each representing a different stage in his journey towards enlightenment and spreading Tibetan Buddhism across the Himalayas. - He is immortalized for his great contribution to establishing the Nyingma sect, one of the oldest of the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism. - Guru Rinpoche translated numerous Buddhist texts into Tibetan, a project that took many years. - His efforts earned him the title of “Buddha of the Vajrayana.” - He refuted the negative impression people had of tantra and promoted rituals as a means to achieve moksha, or liberation from the cycle of death. - Mandarava and Yeshe Tsogyal were his two disciples and later chosen as his spiritual consorts. - Guru Rinpoche preserved his teachings and wisdom in the form of Terma (hidden treasures) all over the Himalayas. - Terma came in different forms, including physical artifacts as well as data embedded in clouds, water, and the surrounding environment.
