Round, Engraved Yunomi: Hydrangea

Crafted from coarse, red earthenware clay, this cup emanates a rustic warmth. After being formed into a round, pleasing shape, the entire yunomi is adorned with an engraved pattern reminiscent of hydrangeas. The piece is fired with a matte glaze that imparts a simple texture, and then meticulously colored with overglaze enamels along the engraved details before a second firing. This yunomi is generously sized, making it quite large for its type. Its plump, rounded form fits comfortably in the hands, with the curves of the cup naturally settling into your palms when held with both hands. The interior boasts a light, off-white hue, allowing you to fully appreciate the colors of transparent beverages like green tea or black tea. It's also perfect for richer drinks such as cafe lattes or houjicha lattes, and can even be used for soup. We invite you to enjoy it with a variety of drinks and dishes. Each piece is handmade from start to finish in my studio, where I have a small electric kiln and electric potter's wheel. Every step, from kneading the clay and shaping to bisquing, glazing, and the final firing, is done by hand. While mass production isn't possible, each yunomi has its own unique character, offering a charm that comes from the handmade process. The item you receive will be the exact piece shown in the product images. To ensure the surface is gentle on your table, the base has been carefully sanded. I continuously explore new combinations of glazes and clays, creating a diverse range of pottery in various colors and shapes. Each piece is unique, almost like a one-of-a-kind creation, even if they appear similar. It brings me great joy when you find a piece that speaks to you. In some cases, colors may seep into crazing, or moisture might appear on the surface. To prevent this, all our items undergo a watertight treatment using a sealant for tableware before shipping, eliminating the need for initial "seasoning" (mejime). This watertight treatment requires 2-3 days, which is why our shipping window is set at 5 days from your order. If you prefer not to have the watertight treatment applied, please let us know at the time of purchase. - The colors of the glaze can appear whiter under natural daylight or white light, and exhibit more reddish or yellowish tones under evening light or warm-colored lamps. - Cutlery shown in product images is not included. - We strive to capture and edit product images to be as true to the actual product as possible.
