Kenji Miyazawa, one of Japan's most famous writers, described the magnolia flower in his short story "The Magnolia Tree" in this way. The flower has the silhouette of a bird with its wings softly spread. We made a hairpin (of Japanese traditional style, 'Kanzashi') of the magnolia at the very moment of its beauty, with a single branch.
