These are asymmetric earrings, crafted with wedding beads, Dogon donuts, and a medley of colorful Afghan metal and ethnic bells.
The teardrop-shaped blue bead is a wedding bead, also known as a lightbulb bead or tear bead. This particular bead dates back to the early 20th century. As it is an antique piece, you may notice minor scratches, which only add to its vintage charm. Please enjoy the unique character of this antique item! It has a matte finish.
*Please note: a small indentation is visible in one spot.
(Wedding bead size: 1.3cm length, 0.9cm diameter)
The cap above the wedding bead is made of Karen silver.
The ring-shaped bead is believed to have traveled from the Netherlands (though some theories suggest Venice or Germany...) to West Africa, eventually reaching the Dogon people of Mali.
These are often called Dutch donuts or Dogon donuts.
The oval-shaped blue-decorated parts, chains, bells of various sizes, gently curved flat pieces, and slightly plump diamond and sun-like charms are all from Afghanistan.
(Blue-decorated part size: 2.9cm length, 1.3cm width – including the ring part.)
As the parts gently collide, they create a delicate, rattling sound.
These are substantial, long earrings that allow you to appreciate the beauty of aged metal.
