Because the clay body and the inlaid slip are different types, their shrinkage rates during firing vary, which can sometimes prevent the white clay from adhering perfectly to the recessed areas. This requires numerous prototypes and considerable time to create. The cup is designed for a comfortable grip and features a smooth rim. Each piece can also be used individually; the cup is perfect for desserts, while the saucer can be used to serve cakes or traditional Japanese sweets.
