This piece is crafted from fine-textured white clay that brings out the vibrancy of the glaze. It was shaped into a bowl with a wide base and a spout to create a versatile katakuchi. The finish features a hydrangea-like purplish blue, beautifully accented by intricate white crystals.
The inspiration for this bowl came from several requests for a spouted bowl suitable for making matcha lattes. As I am not an expert in the tea ceremony, I cannot call it a traditional matcha bowl, but I designed it with the idea that it could serve as a multifunctional vessel for both cuisine and matcha, tailored to your own tastes.
Try serving dishes with flavorful broths, such as agedashi tofu or jibu-ni stew. It is also perfect for serving anmitsu, granola, cut fruits, or ice cream. You might even use it to serve homemade sauces or dressings at your dining table. I hope you enjoy using it in a way that suits your lifestyle.
Each piece is made by hand in my home studio, using a medium-sized electric kiln and an electric potter’s wheel. I handle every step of the process personally, from kneading the clay and shaping to the bisque firing, glazing, and final firing. The soft, rounded form, the textured feel, and the slight weight in the hand evoke the genuine charm of pottery. While I cannot mass-produce these, each one carries its own unique character, offering the distinct beauty that only hand-finished work can provide.
The item you receive will be the exact one shown in the product photos. The base is polished smooth with a file to ensure it will not scratch your tabletop.
I explore various combinations of clays and glazes to create pottery in a wide range of colors and shapes. Because no two are exactly alike, each piece can be considered one-of-a-kind. It would bring me great joy if you find a piece you love.
I hope you will enjoy the colors and atmosphere woven together by the clay and glaze as a vibrant touch to your daily life.
