This piece features a lidded container shaped like a bell, adorned with lilies painted from the ceramic studio's garden.
The delicate artistry adds a touch of elegance and Japanese beauty, evoking the essence of the season.
Crafted from Shigaraki clay and shaped on a potter's wheel, this piece is then meticulously thinned and finished with lightness using the thin-walled technique of Kiyomizu-yaki pottery from Kyoto. The interior is glazed in black to beautifully showcase whatever is placed inside. A custom-blended glaze is thinly applied to the exterior, achieving a refined sheen. The lily motif is hand-painted with gold, silver, and red pigments, and brought to completion through multiple firings. This work has been carefully finished over time, with meticulous attention to temperature and humidity control. The lid fitting has also been carefully executed.
It can be enjoyed for serving rice and side dishes, as a container for small items or an incense holder, or as a decorative interior piece. It also makes a thoughtful gift.
