Rumor had it that anyone photographed by the DSLR Kid—a one-eyed yokai with a DSLR camera—would go completely bald within a week.
People in town began to whisper:
“That guy with the shiny head… was he caught by the DSLR Kid?”
“Or is that just… natural baldness?”
Little by little, the fear began to gnaw at everyone’s minds.
Most people tried to avoid going out at night. But one evening, I had to work late, and by the time I reached my local station, it was already pitch black.
I took the streets that had streetlights as much as possible, but there was one stretch—about ten meters long—that was completely dark.
As I started to jog through it—
Someone was standing there.
“Excuse me,” a voice said.
I turned to look.
A single eye.
A camera in hand.
I froze in fear.
I have to run before he takes the picture!
But my legs wouldn’t move.
“May I take your photo?” he asked, spreading his hands wide.
He extended his thumb and index finger to frame the shot.
I wanted to run. But I still couldn’t move.
The DSLR Kid adjusted his stance, switching to a vertical frame, looking for a better angle.
Just as I was about to collapse to the ground—

He took the picture.
Suddenly, I could move again.
I bolted past him without looking back.
I heard his small voice fading into the distance:
“Wait—!”
Then silence.
Despite being photographed, I didn’t go bald.
Apparently, in pitch darkness, you need someone to hold the same pose for 30 seconds to get a good shot.
So in the end, all the bald heads around town…
