It typically has a spherical shape, with a dark green or gray-green color. Mature plants easily grow offsets, and have fibrous root systems. They have 2-8 spines, with tubercles attached to the ribs. The most distinctive feature of the San Pedro cactus is its less pronounced cracking on the body, resembling a green mochi ball with spines inserted. It generally has fewer ribs, with 5 ribs being its characteristic feature, along with variations of 4 and 3 ribs. The fewer the ribs, the more precious and rare it is, hence the higher price. This particular specimen is a rare four-ribbed variety, which is why the price is slightly higher. The most common form is five-ribbed. If it has more than five ribs, there is a higher probability of it being a hybrid. | Care Tips | The San Pedro cactus thrives in full sun or partial shade and should be placed in a well-ventilated area, planted in a well-draining medium. Summer is the growing season for the San Pedro cactus, and watering should be reduced or stopped in winter. Varieties in this genus (Echinopsis) require a higher level of fertilization. It is recommended to provide more fertilizer to promote growth. This genus can develop roots and grows well. Offsets from branching plants can be easily propagated through their side shoots. However, new varieties are often cultivated through seed sowing, with seedlings appearing in about 3-4 weeks. Some varieties flower only after 1-2 years, and most cannot self-pollinate. Fruit development is good after artificial pollination. In summer, during the growing season, keep the soil moist, provide partial shade, and enhance ventilation. In winter, keep the soil dry, ensure ample sunlight, and maintain a temperature no lower than 5°C. | Flowering | San Pedro flowers come in shades of pink, off-white, or rose red, with darker stripes on the petals. The blooming period lasts for several days, typically in spring and autumn. They are self-pollinating. | Cultivation Notes | During cultivation, it is rare for a major mistake to cause its death. The plant will flower when it reaches a certain size. Due to differences in their native growing environments, the cultivation environment and care requirements for each species vary.
