The Ink-Wash Shino Gold-Gilded Cup features a natural, splash-ink technique that outlines a spontaneous creativity, with rich, layered glazes inside and out that flow like an ink wash painting. The plum blossom on the cup is embellished with 24K liquid gold, revealing an elegant texture amidst light and shadow. With use, the glazed surface gradually reveals a crackle effect, adding a subtle, layered beauty.
Each piece is hand-molded by Master Yu without the use of molds, preserving the original, undulating texture. It feels warm and comfortable in the hand, and every piece is unique.
The glaze used is Shino, originating from Mino, featuring a white glaze primarily composed of feldspar. Master Yu applies his special Shino glaze to the vessel, creating a soft, warm, and richly layered finish after firing.
The ink-wash Shino style glaze is applied after biscuit firing using a natural splashing technique. By precisely controlling the kiln temperature and the degree of high-temperature reduction, it forms a richly layered glaze that flows like an ink wash painting.
The smooth interior, fired with Shino glaze, will continuously develop fine cracks—a "crackle" pattern resembling gold threads—as it comes into contact with tea. During daily tea brewing, the tea color will gradually seep into these cracks; after about a month, the crackle pattern becomes visible, and after two or three months, the color becomes more pronounced, developing a patina that is uniquely yours.
The final gilding process uses 24K liquid gold (real gold), hand-painted and kiln-fired; the golden luster is warm and understated, shimmering in the light.
Works from yuhuayuart are dedicated to those who love details and value a refined lifestyle, making every sip not just a simple action, but a continuation of enjoyment and taste.
Purchase Notes
1. Every piece from yuhuayuart is purely handmade by Master Yu, making each one distinct—this is the charm of handmade ceramics.
2. Each work is one-of-a-kind; once sold, there is no identical piece. If an item you love has been sold, please feel free to message us to ask about similar works.
3. During the firing process, the glaze naturally flows and distributes, and the surface may develop fine crackles due to temperature changes; this is a characteristic of kiln-fired works. Please message us if you have any questions.
4. All works are photographed in a studio to capture their true colors as accurately as possible. Please rely on the actual product for exact color representation; color variations are not considered defects.
Care Instructions | Gold-Gilded Works
Gently wipe the gold layer with a soft cloth. Avoid using scouring pads or hard-bristled brushes, and do not soak in cleaning agents for extended periods. Please do not place in a microwave (metal can cause sparks) or dishwasher to prevent the gold layer from wearing off or peeling.
Artist | Master Yu Huayu
Born in 1980, he was deeply captivated by hand-thrown pottery during junior high school. After completing his military service, he moved to Yingge alone and studied under masters Wu Guorong and Wu Jiancai, dedicating over twenty years to ceramic art. He has developed the Yao-Bian (kiln-transmutation) Shino, Rock Mineral, and Purple Clay Cloud series, and successfully reproduced Song Dynasty celadon firing techniques.
Creative Philosophy
Master Yu centers his work on kiln-transmutation, believing that every piece is a collaborative creation between the ceramicist and the user across time and space. Every crack and every layer of color deepens with the user's daily life, becoming a vessel of true "functional beauty," turning the act of tea drinking into a sustained experience of pleasure and refinement.
