The demi-parure series, featuring necklaces with companion pieces, is now joined by "Falling Geese Beauty," inspired by a Chinese hairpin. We believe the necklace has turned out a beautiful shade of blue. A dewdrop-colored Kyoto opal has been added to the center of the clasp. May it reach those who love blue! This piece is inspired by the hairpin of Wang Zhaojun, known as the "Falling Geese Beauty," one of the Four Beauties of ancient China, legendary figures from Chinese history. Wang Zhaojun was a tragic figure who was married from the Han imperial court to the Xiongnu, a nomadic people from a foreign land. While in the Han court, she was lost among countless other consorts and was never noticed by the Emperor. When it came time to select a woman to be bestowed as a consort to the Xiongnu king, she was sent away after a court painter, bribed by others, depicted her unflatteringly in her portrait. It is said that upon meeting Wang Zhaojun for the first time during an audience before her departure, the Emperor was astonished by her beauty. The legend of "Falling Geese Beauty" comes from the story that the sound of her pipa, played mournfully as she thought of her homeland during her journey, was so sad that geese flying in the sky towards Han fell from the air. It is not difficult to imagine that she faced numerous hardships throughout her life, marrying into a country with vastly different customs and cultures, and one that was considered barbaric by the Han Dynasty at the time. As she was a tragic figure, the overall color scheme is silver, with a subdued elegance. The "Falling Geese" motif is represented by dangling metal bird feather charms. The colors are primarily blue, symbolizing the blue of the sky during her journey, her sorrow, and the purity of her character, which prevented her from resorting to bribery. The delicate beads adorning the floral pattern above the feather motif are cloisonné beads, characteristic of Chinese craftsmanship. The elegantly shaped Swarovski crystals are accented with lapis lazuli-colored pearls and light turquoise crystals at the center of the flowers. Various Czech beads of different colors and shapes are scattered throughout, including vivid, transparent Capri blue, soft opaque blue, and a flattened teardrop shape in cobalt blue dangling from the fan motif.
