Different from the artist's "Pink Period Paintings" in the 1930s, which were dominated by pink and white, in "Eight-Tailed Goldfish", Sanyu boldly used a bright color scheme that is rich in oriental ethnic genealogy to color the picture. He used orange and white as the main colors and divided the canvas into two large areas, the lower half of which is the table and the upper half is the wall it rests on. This concise yet perfect indication of the corresponding relationship between the spaces. In the central subject, he confidently outlines a transparent fish tank with vigorous, calligraphic lines, with eight small goldfish in cinnabar red, white and ink colors swirling and playing in the bottle. From the clear speed of the brushstrokes, one can feel the artist's strong confidence and maturity, as well as his strong oriental freehand spirit, especially in his grasp of the charm of the fish, which is very vivid.
