【Things to Know When Choosing Genuine Leather Products】
Did you know that even within "genuine leather," there are significant differences in properties and price?
In reality, the prices of products labeled "genuine leather" can vary greatly.
While price differences are influenced by design and manufacturing processes, the cost of the leather material itself can differ by more than tenfold, even for the same type of genuine leather.
Why such a disparity? Here's why.
There are broadly two tanning methods for leather: "chrome tanning" and "vegetable tanning."
Currently, the mainstream leather circulating in the market is chrome-tanned, using chemical agents.
Chrome-tanned leather has advantages such as a relatively uniform surface finish, flexibility, and heat resistance.
It can also be produced in large quantities in a short time, making it cost-effective. However, on the flip side of these advantages, it's a leather that doesn't easily develop the "aging patina" that is the true charm of genuine leather.
Scratches and stains from use remain as they are, appearing as "deterioration."
In other words, [chrome-tanned leather is a material suited for mass production, and it is most beautiful at the time of its completion.]
On the other hand, leather tanned using plant-based tannins is called "nume leather."
Nume leather tanning is an ancient method. It retains the natural texture of the raw hide, and its surface is prone to showing natural scratches and vein marks, with varying softness depending on the part.
It is costly due to the long tanning process and is not considered a stable material. However, it is a leather that allows you to enjoy "aging patina"—the development of luster and deepening color over time with use.
[Nume leather is an ancient method that requires time and cost, and it's not perfect when you first hold it, but rather a leather that grows more cherished over a long period.] What do you seek in a leather material? Perhaps it's a "material that can accompany you for a long time."
"If you're going to own a leather product, we want you to choose a leather that allows you to appreciate its changes through long-term use."
With this philosophy, KALEIDOSCOPE's creations focus on "nume leather."

*Due to the nature of nume leather, water stains and color transfer may occur. Please be cautious when using in rainy weather.
*We strive to photograph and adjust colors to be as faithful as possible to the actual product, but please be aware that color variations may occur due to your computer environment.
*Genuine leather may have slight variations in grain texture, natural insect bites, or vein marks depending on the part. Please understand these as characteristics of each unique piece of leather. Those who are concerned should refrain from purchasing.
*Due to the nature of the product, we cannot accept complaints or returns except for initial defects.
