Japanese Esoteric Buddhist Ritual Implement, 18th-19th Century | Five-Pronged Vajra (12.8 cm)
Tools for Practice × The Patina of Time
A five-pronged vajra, 12.8 cm in length and weighing 135 grams.
Cast from a bronze alloy, acquired from an overseas collector.
This is a ritual implement from the "Tōmitsu" (Japanese Esoteric Buddhism) school of Japanese Buddhism, crafted approximately between the 18th and 19th centuries.
The common four-ringed pattern in the middle section symbolizes the four eyes of Dainichi Nyorai (Mahāvairocana Buddha)—
capable of subduing internal and external obstacles, and protecting practitioners as they advance with right mindfulness.
Includes a lanyard adorned with ancient West Asian carnelian beads and two 18th-19th century Burmese prayer beads.
Featuring a quick-release design, it can be worn on the waist or attached to a bag for convenient personal protection.
