Wood burning introduction
"Wood-burning" is the traditional kiln-burning method, which uses firewood to burn to a high temperature of over 1200 degrees.
There are "fire marks" left naturally on the body by the firewood, as well as the ashes that fall naturally after the firewood burns, which make the work warm and varied in color, a level that electric kilns and gas kilns cannot achieve.
Compared with ordinary electric kilns and gas kilns, the process of wood firing from arranging (stacking) kilns, igniting and burning to sealing the kiln and then cooling down takes about 8 to 10 days.
In addition, the kiln pressure of wood-fired works is very high, and the humidity of the climate, the dryness of the wood, the speed of human firewood feeding, the kiln position... and other factors may lead to the success or failure of the work, and the damage rate is also relatively high.
Experienced wood-fired artists will consider the speed of the airflow throughout the kiln when arranging the kiln, and will plan how to arrange the different sizes of works, estimate how the fire path will rise, how to add firewood and carbon, and the degree of burning. You have to focus on every step to create a perfect wood-fired work.
