"Jiao Tai" refers to the combination of different colored clays. Patterns are pieced together with different colored clays into a long cylindrical shape, much like assembling a decorative sushi roll. When sliced, numerous pieces with similar patterns are revealed, which are then sculpted into bowls. Vessels made with the Jiao Tai technique possess a unique characteristic: the pattern appears on both the front and back. Due to the nature of the Jiao Tai method, the patterns undergo organic deformation during the crafting process, such as stretching and twisting, as if the patterns themselves are in motion.
Crafted using Japanese porcelain clay and fired at 1230°C.
