[Handmade Letterpress] Paper Donuts - Antarctic Iceberg Flavor

The subtle curves of letterpress printing always look so delectable, with a soft, smooth feel that makes you want to take a bite. Inspired by this sensation, we’ve created a donut-shaped card. Letterpress is used to capture the textured depth of melted frosting. Using the Antarctic icebergs as our theme, the concept of melting ice and frosting harmonized perfectly. We aimed to imbue the familiar donut with a new flavor and meaning. It symbolizes our warming climate, with ice melting far faster than we imagine. Even the penguins have a layer of ice melting on their heads; though they can swim, we still want to give them a life preserver. We hope the recipient finds their own unique meaning and associations within this design. In its printing, beyond the multi-color letterpress, we’ve applied a clear foil to the iceberg sections. This preserves the paper’s original hue while creating a cool, transparent ice-like effect when it reflects light. For the paper, we selected Crane's Lettra, a premium 100% cotton paper. Its loft and ability to showcase tactile depth are exceptional—feel it when you receive it to truly appreciate its texture. To fully embrace the donut concept, we commissioned custom wavy kraft envelopes, reminiscent of donut bags. Instead of a more easily printed translucent art paper for the interleaf, we insisted on using greaseproof paper typically found with desserts—glassine paper! This ultra-thin 28lb paper challenges the printer’s skill, all to make the recipient feel as though they’ve just purchased a real donut.
