French Belle Époque Mother-of-Pearl × Gilded Dessert Service Set
This is a rare set from Froment, a jeweler from French Blida, crafted during the late 19th to early 20th century Belle Époque.
A four-piece dessert service set, featuring natural mother-of-pearl handles with silver-plated metal trim, and gilded brass for the working surfaces, adorned with exquisite openwork carvings.
This type of combined craftsmanship was not intended for everyday use but was a luxurious display piece specially made for high society's afternoon teas, banquets, and gift occasions.
In French Blida at the time, only a select few European immigrant families and affluent individuals could afford such high-end, artisanal tableware.
Its rarity is further emphasized by its preservation in the original, complete box to this day.
📏 Dimensions:
1. Openwork Fork: 17.3 cm
2. Openwork Spade / Cake Server: 16.7 cm
3. Openwork Spoon: 16.7 cm
4. Openwork Knife: 19.2 cm
5. Box: 22.5 cm
The elegant iridescence, golden sheen, and the historical background of the Blida brand make this set not just a highlight on the dining table, but also a seldom-seen example of mother-of-pearl and gilded craftsmanship in the collector's market.
As it has been stored in the box long-term, the condition of the utensils is quite well-maintained, with only the box showing more noticeable signs of its history.
Please note that vintage items inevitably bear historical marks; purchase only if you are comfortable with this.
