Yamdrok Lake is located south of Lhasa in Tibet. In Tibetan, Yamdrok means "the upper pasture's jade lake." It is one of the three sacred lakes of Tibet, with a highly fragmented shape resembling coral reefs, nurturing a vast array of species. It is also a lake that freezes in winter. To the west of the lake stands Sanding Monastery, quietly perched on a mountain peak by its shore. It has weathered centuries, with countless monks practicing their devotion there. They safeguard the lake's legends and beliefs, or perhaps, the lake itself protects the people of the land. In winter, people seek refuge in warmer valleys or the south, while snow blankets everything. — This mug is crafted using Shigaraki clay, a material not easily obtained in Taiwan. A brief introduction to this unique clay: Shigaraki clay originates from the Shigaraki region in Shiga Prefecture, Japan, formed from the sedimentary processes of the ancient Lake Biwa. It is primarily composed of feldspar, quartz, and small amounts of mica and kaolinite. Its grain distribution is relatively coarse, containing a higher proportion of feldspar and quartz particles. Compared to American clays, it has a lower shrinkage rate and can withstand higher temperatures, offering excellent firing stability. It is widely used in Japan. The Tanuki (raccoon dog) is a symbol of the local pottery industry; the Shigaraki Tanuki is not only representative of Shigaraki ware but has also become a symbol of good fortune and business prosperity in Japan. — Approximately 11.6cm long Approximately 9cm wide Approximately 7.5cm high Origin: Taiwan Material: Shigaraki Clay with Tanuki Imprint Handmade Fired at 900°C for bisque and 1230°C for glaze firing with reduction. The glaze is non-toxic and safe for use as tableware. Notes: Dimensions are measured by hand and may have an error of 0.5cm, but I will strive for accuracy.
