After experiencing World War II, the Damascene factory was revived in Kyoto in 1946. In 1952, the Japanese official designated Amita Damascene Co., Ltd. as an export retail store. The metal inlay craft can be traced back to Damascus, the capital of Syria more than 2,000 years ago. It was later brought to the Iberian Peninsula (today's Spain and Portugal) with the invasion of the Moors in the early eighth century. It was also revealed during the same period. Introduced to Japan via the Silk Road.
Iron or Bronze alloy is used as the carcass. After fine lines are carved on the surface, real gold and Silver flakes are made into patterns and hammered together.
