About the creation process. Starting with a sketch, the clay is shaped, dried slightly, and then refined through repeated adjustments. We create enough pieces to fill the kiln evenly over about a month. The first firing takes 7 hours. After removing and wiping with water, each piece is individually glazed and then undergoes a 12-hour main firing. Some pieces are further adorned with gold glaze and placed back in the kiln for another 7 hours. As they require a slow cooling process, we wait about two days after each firing before removing them from the kiln. Finally, each brooch is inspected by hand, and pins are attached to those that meet our standards. Currently, our success rate is around 70%. Although this process requires significant time and effort, the result is a decorative brooch that combines the tactile feel of clay, the strength of pottery, the luster of glaze, and the sparkle of gold accents.
