■What is Hasami ware?
Hasami ware is produced in Hasami Town, Higashisonogi District, Nagasaki Prefecture.
Although it is famous as a production area of porcelain, Hasami Town first produced pottery around 1580.
The main raw material for pottery is clay, and the main raw material for porcelain is Stone. Currently, it is difficult to use raw materials exclusively from each region, so clay and Stone from Amakusa City in Kumamoto Prefecture are used.
The same raw materials are used for modern Arita ware, and Arita ware and Hasami ware, which are both produced in Kyushu and are often compared, differ primarily in the use of clay and Stone that are ranked according to the ability to produce vivid overglaze colors.
It is not a matter of whether the vessels are good or bad, but rather the purpose and expression for which they are used.
Hasami ware is produced in medium quantities, with each craftsman dividing up the work and placing importance on manual labor, and is produced and manufactured throughout the region.
