Landscape with pempens
I designed a textile from a plant called shepherd's purse, or 'penpen grass'.
This plant can be seen in Japan around spring, and if you look closely at the shape of its leaves you will see that they are heart-shaped.
When the warm spring season arrives and I spot a bunch of green grass in the grasslands, I feel very happy. I have long wanted to design that scene someday.
The name "Penpen-gusa" comes from the sound it makes when you rub and shake the plant between your palms in Japan. When I was a child, I often played with it, saying "Penpen."
It is dyed with indigo using a mud-resistant dyeing technique called dabu print, a type of Indian chintz that uses a mud-like substance to print on the fabric so that the color does not stain it.
It looks like a typical button-front dress, but it has gathers at the shoulders, so even though it uses an abundance of fabric, it still looks neat.
There are no seams in the arm area, so it is recommended for those who are concerned about the thickness of their arms or who want to layer clothes underneath.
You can also use ribbons to tie the dress in the front, side, or back, or you can wear it loosely without the ribbon.
There are pockets on both sides.
Height 156cm, slightly above the calf
Please note that each product is hand-dyed by a craftsman, so the colors and patterns may vary from product to product.
*There may be uneven weaving and dyeing that is unique to handmade products.
*As this item is hand-dyed using natural dyes, the color will fade and develop a unique character with repeated use. Please understand this as a characteristic of hand-dyed fabrics before purchasing.
*There is a possibility of color fading, so we recommend that you hand wash the item separately, quickly dehydrate it lightly, and dry it in the shade.
*Please use detergent that does not contain fluorescent bleach. We recommend using a neutral detergent.
*May shrink slightly after washing. Do not tumble dry.
*Even when dry, please be careful of color transfer to light-colored clothing or bags.
