Lanyu Marine Debris Buoy - Totem Edition Painted Sperm Whale Buoy
A collaborative creation by <Little Island Art Class> and <Marine Debris Shop>
Lanyu is a volcanic island with a predominantly rocky coastline and fewer sandy beaches.
As a result, marine debris carried by ocean currents often becomes entangled in the reef areas.
For over a decade, since 2012, we have been participating in beach cleanups on the island. Beyond collecting marine debris from the coastlines of various communities and sorting it into recyclable and non-recyclable categories, in recent years, we have specifically selected usable fishing buoys from the piles of collected waste. These are then cleaned and categorized, aiming to alleviate the burden on the island's already saturated landfills and to give new life to marine debris through reuse and upcycling...
Each marine debris buoy has traveled across the ocean from different regions, carried by the Kuroshio Current and other ocean flows, arriving at our small island (examples include Korea, China, Japan, etc. If you look closely, you can actually see different languages printed on each buoy). Due to the varying materials and sizes of the buoys, and with each one meticulously hand-painted stroke by stroke, every painted marine debris buoy is truly one-of-a-kind.
With every purchase of a recycled marine debris buoy, you will receive one postcard as shown in image two.
