New Territories tourist map in the 1960s from Castle Peak to Ping Shan, Yuen Long and Kam Tin

In the early 1960s, the New Territories became a holiday destination for many Hong Kong people. The New Territories tourism map drawn by Lai Man-fei, founder of Hoi Kwong Magazine, depicts the tourist attractions in Castle Peak (later renamed Tuen Mun), Yuen Long, Sheung Shui, Fanling, Tai Po, Sha Tin and other areas, and also plots the tourist attractions in each area. Distributed villages, markets, roads and other infrastructure are included. The early 1960s was not only a golden period for New Territories tourism, but also saw the emergence of new towns and various transportation projects. These tourist maps also invisibly record the urbanization process of the New Territories countryside at that time.
